Until 1996 I had been drawing and painting only as a hobby. I started displaying my work at art shows and a few galleries and received a positive response. In 1999 I started working with pen and ink on wood, with pieces ranging from diagonally cut wood slabs to canoe paddles. I also began expanding my work with landscape and wildlife photography as I increased the number of backcountry hiking, canoeing and kayaking trips.
In 2004 I started building wood boats and to date I have built three kayaks and one canoe. My last kayak won "Best of Show" at the Classic & Wooden Boat Festival in Door County, Wisconsin in 2013. I regularly incorporate my pen and ink and carvings into each boat. I have also incorporated my patented kayak deck flare design into two of my boats.
In 2007 I started learning the process of monoprinting with Paul J. Yank in Cedarburg, Wisconsin (www.pauljyank.co) I enjoy the versatility of the medium and the ability to fully explore each subject matter. Paul's work has also inspired me to some stained-glass work and incorporate it into my other mediums.
The emphasis of my site is on unique designs and art.
